This iPhone X optical illusion is super freakyOn March 2, 2018 by Kenna
Another day, another mind-boggling optical illusion.
Rather than the usual, girl-taking-selfie-accidentally-ends-up-looking-like-cartoon-character type illusions, though, this one is actually intentional.
Earlier this week, Swedish artist Peder Norrby shared a video of a cool trick he’d made using his iPhone X.
Pretty crazy, right?
Here’s a follow-up video he shared to explain how it all works.
“I’m using iPhone X with ARKit’s face-tracking to perform head-tracking in 3D,” Norrby explains in the clip above, before going on to say he’ll publish the app — “The Parallax View” — for free on the App Store along with the source code.
Nice effect and great work but I think it only works when you film.. When you watch the screen you can see the 3D and you see it’s a video displayed by the phone in 2D. Or to have the effect and trick your mind by the illusion you have to close one eye (to see in 2D)

Thanks! Yes you are correct. It is a monoscopic effect, so one eye should be closed for best effect. I mentioned that in the explainer vid. But when one eye is closed and it tracks good, the image really “pops”. And it works great for filming 🙂 https://t.co/vjz0rpR84D

And to think some people — *cough* — just use their iPhones for Twitter and Pokémon catching.
